God of the Bible

Wednesdays January 14th thru February 11th from 1:30-3:00 pm | To register for the class, fill out the form and click submit!

SESSION 1 January 14th: IMAGINING THE MYSTERY AND LOVE OF GOD
Scripture offers many metaphors for us to understand how God relates to us. These images teach us about God and ourselves; and by exploring this variety of images, we learn more about the nature of God.

SESSION 2 January 21st: LISTENING TO WISDOM
The book of Proverbs offers a fascinating way of understanding Wisdom as a “person” who takes action and teaches us to identify wisdom in our own lives.

SESSION 3 January 28th: GOD WHO NURTURES, LOVES AND PARENTS
There are many passages that help us understand God as parent (mother and father). Scripture also empowers us to explore ways this language can be limiting and ways to expand our language and understanding of God.

SESSION 4 February 4th: GOD OF ALL CREATION
The Bible is full of many different inanimate images of God! All these images teach us new ways of understanding God’s nature.

SESSION 5 February 11th: KNOWING THE UNKNOWABLE
Names are very significant in Scripture. What does it mean to you when God says, “I am who I am?” Is it possible to know the unknowable God?

The God in the Bible is bigger and more expansive than we think!  Rock, Cloud, Mother Hen, Wise Woman, Father are just a handful of names for God we find in the Bible!

We all have names we use for God and ways that we tend to imagine God.  This study will provide space for participants to share their own primary images of God and expand their images of God through scriptural study.

This study is provided by the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women of the United Methodist Church and participants will receive a student workbook!

We’ll meet for 5 sessions on Wednesdays (January 14-February 11, 2026) from 1:30 to 3:00 pm.

This class, led by Pastor Jill, will be taught in a hybrid format.  You can join via zoom or by attending in-person in the study.
